Midnight, Me and the Blues by Cracker

I come in here tonight with every intention of shootin' the juke box...tired of moanin' the blues..tired of hearin' the blues...and even more tired of feelin' the blues...took myself out for a drive tonight...I've about gone full circle I'm thinkin'...when my kids were little and Butch was gone off to prison and I would be so lonesome and blue I would load them up in my car and drive...sometimes it felt like for days...I drove every highway in the state...most anyway....then when I couldn't drive anymore I would go home..and take them out ...pile them all in bed with me..crawl into my nest of babies and pass out...back then I didn't drink nothin'...coffee and lots of it...it rained here today..a nice hard rain...I saw Jimmy up in town and he pulled into Bass Pro to BS with me and before it was over the a cloud burst soaked us both...I'm still not feelin' good but think maybe I'm better...Butch says thats why I'm sleepin' so much...but we both know better...won't be long and he will be here...I'm lookin' forward to the break...I'm glad we came to this stag of our life where we are friends..he is a good friend...he knows me better than anyone ...I think he really does...he knows me in a way not many people can know me...down where I bleed...he knows I'm bleedin' now and he is bein' a gentle friend...so it's good...good to have him...I took myself to the local greasy spoon and had a bowl of chili...wasn't hungry but thought maybe I had better eat...I don't feel like hangin' around Blogstream much...not that I don't love you all..it's just this mountain that I have to climb is takin more out of me than I thought ....damn the man that ever slows down in front of me again...lessons hard learned are not easy forgot...I learned this lesson the hard way...still tryin' to get through it..but I will...yes..I will..nothin' but a thang...ignornce is not without a price..I'm payin' for mine...but when the dust settles...I'll land on my feet and be a harder trick to pull...well kids...I'm goin to get off here...just stopped in to see what condiction my condition was in...now I know...but I'm not drinkin'...not smokin'...and thats only cause it's dry as a bone here...but I am happy that I'm not wantin to get roarin' drunk...that lets me know I'm still okay in that respect...wouldn't want to go out a knock down drunk...I deserve better than that....even from me...I bought myself a new dress today...a silk dress...kinda loud ..even for me..but I loved it anyway...my grandkids will be here soon and granny can go to bed..you all have a good night and I'll chat at ya later
